On 2nd October, SKSS was donated a dozen of descendants of “space silkworms” from the China Manned Space Engineering Office during the closing ceremony of InnoTech Expo 2017.
In October 2015, the “Raising Silkworms in Space” programme, proposed by SKSS students and teachers, was accepted by the China National Space Administration. 6 silkworms were taken on-board the Shenzhou-11 spacecraft and entered space. After engaging in experiments in space for 30 days, they returned to the Earth and reproduced successfully. The 12 descendants were the offspring of the “space silkworms” in the Shenzhou-11 mission.
The students involved are already studying in university. They will return to their alma mater to guide their fellow schoolmates in raising the descendants of “space silkworms”, so that they can be used in future investigation and education.
